Information on eligibility, what SNAP East Cape covers, booking, transportation, community cats, preparation, and aftercare.
Who qualifies
SNAP East Cape provides assistance to dogs and cats belonging to Mexican families, as well as community animals, abandoned animals, and animals at risk of abandonment. All services are provided based on available funding
Non-Mexican nationals may contact SNAP East Cape for case-by-case consideration based on available funding and circumstances.
What SNAP East Cape covers
SNAP East Cape covers the cost of spay and neuter surgery through our veterinary partner.
SNAP East Cape does not normally cover vaccinations, flea and tick medication, emergency treatment, post-surgical complications unrelated to the sterilization procedure, or other general veterinary care. Any exceptions must be approved by SNAP in advance.

SNAP East Cape partners with Clínica Veterinaria Buenos Aires in Los Barriles to provide year-round sterilization services.

Transportation assistance
Transportation assistance may be available for community members who face barriers getting their animal to the clinic. Support depends on volunteer and funding availability, so please mention any transportation needs when requesting an appointment.
Community cats and TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release)
Community cats are free-roaming cats that may be feral, abandoned, or unsocialized. Many live in outdoor colonies and rely on local community members for food, care, and support.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the humane process of trapping community cats, sterilizing them, and returning them to their territory. SNAP East Cape supports local caretakers by helping them access sterilization services and, when available, loaning humane traps and transport crates.
SNAP East Cape does not operate a cat rescue or adoption program. Colony care—feeding, monitoring, and safe trapping—remains a community responsibility. Contact SNAP East Cape for guidance before trapping.
Surgery preparation
- Follow the clinic’s fasting instructions before surgery: a minimum of 8 hours without food and only minimal water.
- Arrive on time and bring any paperwork or information requested when your appointment was confirmed.
- The appropriate age and timing for sterilization are determined by the examining veterinarian based on your animal’s age, health, and individual needs.
Aftercare
- Provide a quiet and safe place for the animal to rest.
- Limit running, jumping, and strenuous activity for the period recommended by the clinic, typically 7–10 days after surgery.
- Prevent your animal from licking or chewing the incision while it heals.
- Check the incision as instructed and contact the clinic if you notice concerning redness, swelling, discharge, or other signs of a possible complication.

SNAP East Cape does not operate a rescue, foster, or adoption program. Our focus is prevention through spay and neuter, community outreach, and education.
